רטו קרומר • Reto KromerHaving graduated in both mathematics and computer science, Reto Kromer became involved in audio-visual conservation and restoration forty years ago. He has been running his own preservation company, AV Preservation by reto.ch, and also lecturing at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. His courses cover the conservation and restoration not only of audio-visual content but also audio-visual carriers, usually with a focus on technical issues and motion picture film. The research projects he currently leads focus primarily on the digital domain and include colour spaces, look-up tables, codecs and emulation, as well as methods for recovering actual files and the so-called raw data they contain. Previously he was head of preservation at the Cinémathèque suisse (the Swiss National Film Archive) as well as a lecturer at the University of Lausanne, at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and at the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola in Donostia (San Sebastián). He served as an Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) board member for four years. His work has seen him honoured with both one of the inaugural Joint Technical Symposium (JTS) Awards and a SMPTE James A. Lindner Archival Technology Medal. Part of his leisure time is devoted to study and teaching Medieval and Western Yiddish as well as other rare Jewish languages, including some varieties of northern Judeo-Italian such as Judeo-Venetian, Judeo-Lombard and Judeo-Piedmontese. 2025-09-12 |
